It depends on the town. The rules in short:
- Corolla and the 4x4 beaches: pet-friendly year-round, on a leash.
- Duck: pet-friendly year-round. Dogs can play off-leash on the beach under close supervision, but must be leashed in the village and at Duck Town Park.
- Nags Head: leashed dogs are welcome year-round (leash up to 10 feet).
- Kitty Hawk: dogs are welcome on public beaches, with leash rules in the summer season.
- Kill Devil Hills and Southern Shores: no dogs on the beach from 9am to 6pm between May 15 and September 15. Leashed dogs are welcome the rest of the time.
Rules can change, so see our pet guide and each town's beach page for the details.

Service animals are not pets. They're welcome in every home, even a no-pet one, with no pet fees. Emotional support animals are generally treated like pets, so they're only allowed where pets are. We encourage you to contact us before booking if you have questions. See our service animal policy.
